Add Jennifer Lopez to the list of sad stories on "American Idol" this season. "I can't do this anymore, " said Lopez as she wept, while voting to kick off Chris Medina.

Medina famously auditioned for the show with an emotional rendition of the Script's "Breakeven," as he introduced his wheelchair-bound fiancée, Juliana Ramos, who suffered a traumatic brain injury after a car accident.

But it's not all bad news for Mr. Medina. He's already slated to perform on Friday night's "Tonight Show."

JLo has displayed a marked queasiness on the show when it comes to kicking contestants to the curb and has welled up before with tears. But Medina's back story and struggle to get to the show clearly overwhelmed her.

Lopez is in good company. Season 10, which has no shortage of talent, seems to have an abundance of sob stories; from the contestant who was left for dead after a car accident, to the contestant with Tourette's and Asperger's syndromes, to Medina.

"Idol" may have started as a talent competition but it has become so much more. Some would say the show highlights contestants' personal tragedies at the expense of their talent.

Things I Bought At Mercury Store Today

I went to Mercury Drugstore today to buy a few things. I usually go there to buy my personal stuff because I could use my Suki card. This helps a lot because I earn points and rebates from using the card.

Anyway, I was picking up the things I needed like soap, shampoo and some medicines when I saw hoodia also being sold. I was really tempted to get one because I've been trying to lose some weight for quite some time now.

In the end, I chose to prioritize my grocery list for today and just come back for those later this month when I again visit Mercury. I'll also do a bit of research on the internet first so I can learn more about hoodia if it works and if it's safe for me.

Is Paris Hilton Getting Married?

Paris Hilton just celebrated her 30th birthday, and she was just seen accompanied by Waits to luxury jewelry store Jacob & Co. in New York on Friday, where the duo checked out some serious bling.

"They shopped for engagement rings," one news source says. "They were really cute together. Paris was making comments about the rings and joking that her ring has to be at least 24 carats."

Although the lovebirds – who began dating last summer – did not leave with an engagement ring, Hilton did not leave empty-handed.

She walked out sporting a $25,000 white gold and black diamond encrusted ring, which makes it more obvious that it may not be long before we hear wedding bells for Paris soon.

Revenues were down as much as 30% from a year ago, when Valentine's Day led with a $63.1 million opening over the four-day holiday weekend.

Top performer this year was Warner Bros. and Dark Castle's Liam Neeson action pic Unknown, which debuted to an estimated $25.6 million in a surprise victory over DreamWorks and Touchstone's teen entry I Am Number Four.

While a big win for Joel Silver's Dark Castle, which fully financed and produced the $30 million film, Unknown posted the lowest gross for the No. 1 President's Day film since 2006.

A resounding 89% of Unknown's audience was over the age of 25 -- and 54% over the age of 50 -- much the same demo who fueled Neeson's Taken.

American Idol was on top of the ratings again last night with a 7.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 21.9 million viewers overall at 8 PM. This is according to reports which I've read lately.

"Idol" was up slightly - 3% -- week-to-week and the lead-in propelled "Bones" (3.3, 9.9 million) past a Justin Bieber guest-turn on "CSI" (2.9, 13.2 million), while ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" was No. 1 at 9 p.m. averaging a 3.7 rating with 10.2 million viewers overall.

Despite the win at 9 p.m., last night marked a season low for an all-original Thursday night on ABC. "Wipeout" (1.9, 6.1 million) was down 14%, while "Grey's" fell 5% and "Private Practice" (2.4, 6.8 million) was down 8%.

NBC also hit a nadir; tying as the lowest in-season Thursday ever with an original series lineup. Community (1.8, 4.1 million) and "Perfect Couples" (1.4, 3.0 million) tied season lows. And "The Office" (3.3, 6.4 million), "Parks and Recreation" (2.3, 4.3 million), "30 Rock" (2.0, 4.0 million) and "Outsourced" (1.5, 3.2 million) all hit season lows.

On the CW, "Vampire Diaries" was up 7% week-to-week in the 18-49 demo (1.4) and total viewers (3 million), while "Nikita" rose 13% in the demo (0.8) and 10% in total viewers (2.1 million).

For the night, Fox was first (5.4, 15.9 million), followed by CBS (3.0, 13.1 million), ABC (2.7, 7.7 million), Univision (2.1, 5 million), NBC (2.0, 4.2 million) and CW (1.1, 2.5 million).

A Boost To The Tea

I've been trying to lose weight by eating healthy, going to the gym and drinking those weight loss tea. And now, I'm trying to add one more ingredient to my fight against obesity - diet pills.

So now, I'm trying to search which diet pills are safe for the body. And it's good to see that there's a lot out there. I'm planning to buy one soon after I decide which one would work best with my current weight loss tea regimen.

Why? According to my friend, I should not just buy any diet pill - but one that should work well with the slimming tea I'm taking so I could avoid a possible upset stomach. I think he has a point there.

Apollo 18 Trailer Debuts

Everybody knows that man last set foot on the moon in 1972. The brand new trailer for "Apollo 18," which premiered yesterday on Apple.com, asks the question: "Why haven't we been back?"

From director Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego and producer Timur Bekmanbetov, the trailer for "Apollo 18" mixes what appears to be archival footage of early space shuttle launches with "Paranormal Activity" style "found footage" of a secret 1973 mission to the lunar surface, supposedly kept hidden from the public because of what the astronauts discovered.

The alternate history story is the English language debut of Spanish auteur Lopez-Gallego. Released by Dimension Films, "Apollo 18" will hit theaters April 22nd, 2011.

Going On A Cruise

It's going to be summer here in Manila in a few weeks and most of my friends are now planning where they'd go. The most popular destination of course, is the beach. But we've been going to these beaches every year so I suggested something new.

I told them if they'd like to check out some of the ncl cruises online and book a travel plan for our group. It seems that they like the idea! So we're now fixing our schedule to see exactly when everyone would be available for the trip.

It will be the first time for all of us to go on a cruise, so we're making sure that we're all prepared. And if this goes really well, then I think it will be the first of many cruises we'll take.

Born This Way Gives Birth To A New Lady Gaga

The Madonna-influenced dance track is not the top song on iTunes in 23 countries. The song is the title track in the new album of Lady Gaga which is set for release in May 2011.

iTunes Sales After The Grammy's

It didn't take long for the big winners at Sunday night's Grammy Awards to get an iTunes bump. Less than 24 hours after the show, the iTunes singles and albums charts were flooded with songs that were either performed on the show or which won awards during the program.

At press time on Tuesday morning (February 15), the iTunes singles tally was topped, not surprisingly, by Lady Gaga's "Born This Way," which got its televised debut during the show, followed by Dr. Dre's "I Need a Doctor," which Eminem and Dre (making his first televised performance in nearly a decade) also performed on the show.

Justin Bieber's "Never Say Never" was at #3, followed by Cee Lo Green's "F--- You," which was one of the most colorful and bizarre live spots in the three-and-a-half-hour show thanks to his outer-space Henson Puppet band and a cameo from a sultry Gwyneth Paltrow.

Mumford & Sons also got some iTunes love after playing on the show with folk legend Bob Dylan, which helped their song "The Cave" hit #5, followed by the night's big Grammy victors, Lady Antebellum, and their Song and Record of the Year winner, "Need You Now."

Although she didn't perform "Firework" on the Grammys, Katy Perry's anthem hung in at #7, ahead of Rihanna, who had two shots onstage at the Grammys. Her "S&M," whose video is the subject of legal action, came in at #8, with Bruno Mars' "Grenade" and non-Grammy performer Avril Lavigne's "What the Hell" rounding out the top 10.

Just outside the top 10, there were plenty more Grammy bumps to be found: Cee Lo's censored "Forget You" (#11), Mumford & Sons' "Little Lion Man" (#12), Muse's "Uprising" (#20), Rihanna and Drake's "What's My Name?" (#21), Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie" (#24) and Florence and the Machine's "Dog Days Are Over" (#29).

The iTunes album chart told a similar story, with Mumford's Sigh No More holding on to the #1 slot, followed by Bieber's Never Say Never remixes disc, Album of the Year winner the Arcade Fire's The Suburbs was back in play at #3, proceeded by Grammy performers the Avett Brothers' I and Love and You at #4, with Best New Artist Esperanza Spalding's Chamber Music Society climbing to #6.

Other Grammy album action included: Lady Antebellum's Need You Now (#7), Bieber's My World 2.0 (#8), Eminem's Recovery (#9), Rihanna's Loud (#10), Florence and the Machine's Lungs (#11), Bieber's My Worlds Acoustic (#12), the 2011 Grammy Nominees compilation (#14), as well as albums by the Black Keys (#17), Muse (#19), Bruno Mars (#21) and Spalding's 2009 Esperanza release (#28).

New at G-Cash

I got hold of a wallet-size codigo of G-Cash. It’s available at Globe stalls and fits snugly inside your pocket or wallet. Not a bad idea. It’s an alternative to texting "info" to 2882 to receive a list of keywords for G-Cash transactions.

They have the list of transactions starting with Registration, Cash-in, Cash-out, person-to-person transfer (P2P), payment at partner merchants, domestic and international remittance, load, bills payment, payment for food deliveries, donations to charity and purchasing G-Cash using credit cards.

That’s nice, quite a full menu of services.

The last item is rather interesting. G-Cash subscribers can use their Visa, Mastercard or JCB credit cards to buy G-Cash. Neat, just like being able to get a cash advance online don't you think?

Up-side, it’s an addition to the currently limited number of ways of getting G-Cash into your phone (known as "Cash-in"). I'm sure that there's a way to enhance this service such that it becomes useful.

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2011 Cover Revealed

The cover of the Sports Illustrated 2011 Swimsuit edition was revealed Monday night on "Late Night With David Letterman" -- and the star of this year's mag is one Irina Shayk.

Sports Illustrated 2011 Swimsuit cover Letterman's list, the "Top 10 Good Things About Appearing in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition," was delivered by 10 models featured in the sports mag's annual skin fest -- and Shayk caught our attention early with her Boris-and-Natasha delivery of No. 6: "When police officer ask me for ID, I say, 'Check Page 47.' "

Moments later, the 25-year-old model seemed a bit shy and surprised as her bodacious, swimsuit-clad body was revealed to all on a massive billboard at the corner of Broadway and 52nd Street in New York. She follows in the bikini strings of last year's cover girl, Brooklyn Decker. And yes, she found out during the taping that she got the cover.

Cleaning Up Some Snow in Toronto

After a major snowfall like what happened last week, snow would really plug up the streets. And this would seriously interfere with the day-to-day activities of the neighborhood, even the city.

People are expected to clear the snow from in front of their houses, but the municipality helps out for the sake of public safety. In any case, good thing we had a good working toro snow blowers at home.

While cleaning up, my uncle recalls back in 1999 when the city of Toronto became the butt of a lot of jokes. Because they had to call in the Canadian army to clear away their snow. Toronto is the city Canadians love to hate; this was too juicy an opportunity for people to pass it up.

Glee Tour 2011

If you weren't one of the nearly 27 million Gleeks who tuned in to the post-Super Bowl episode of the hit Fox musical comedy "Glee" on Sunday, don't worry, you'll get your chance this spring to latch onto the runaway phenomenon.

The show's cast is taking to the road again for a 16-city North American tour that is slated to kick off on May 21 with a concert at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas. The "Glee Live! In Concert!" tour will star 13 members of the TV series' cast, including Lea Michele (Rachel), Cory Monteith (Finn), Amber Riley (Mercedes), Chris Colfer (Kurt), Kevin McHale (Artie), Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina), Mark Salling (Puck), Dianna Agron (Quinn), Naya Rivera (Santana), Heather Morris (Brittany), Harry Shum Jr. (Mike), Chord Overstreet (Sam) and Darren Criss (Blaine).

"Glee" gang will be performing in all-new production based on the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning show. "The cast and I were so moved by the love and enthusiasm of our fans at last year's concerts that we knew we had to do it again," said series co-creator Ryan Murphy. "There is something magical about thousands of 'Gleeks' coming together to share a special night with our cast, and this tour is one way we can thank them for their unbelievable support from the beginning."

The concerts will feature live performances of some of the most beloved moments from seasons one and two, including: "Empire State of Mind," "Toxic," "My Life Would Suck Without You," "It's My Life" and the show's anthem, "Don't Stop Believin'."

"Joining the cast this year has been like hopping on a fast-moving train," Overstreet said in a statement announcing the tour. "I have already had so many incredible experiences, but the chance to perform live on stages across the U.S., Canada and Europe takes the cake. This is too cool."

The Beauty and Function of Ceiling Fans

I like ceiling fans. They’re functional and convenient, help save money on utility bills, and give me a chance to get a good night’s sleep by keeping the bedroom a comfortable temperature. Some people might consider them a decorating no-no, but I like ceiling fans.

Have you looked at some of the latest offerings from the manufacturers- companies like Hunter, Fanimation, Minka Aire, and Casablanca Fans, among others? If your idea of a ceiling fan dates from the ‘70s, you’re in for a surprise.

True, some of the styles look familiar, but check out the other great looks, from futuristic to modern to New Orleans romantic. Fan blades carved in wood, or made from sturdy canvas like sails, or looking like palm fronds or trimmed in bamboo- styles to suit a child's room with ceiling hugging blades and styles to hang suspended from a rod in a room with cathedral ceilings.

It's wonderful to see all the changes to the old basic ceiling fan- which is still available, by the way.

You can find fans with light kits, some with remote control, and others rated for outdoor use. Just don't scrimp unduly on your purchase. True, some fans are quite inexpensive (read "cheap") and these can be suitable for very light usage or when you just want a certain look.

But if you plan to use your ceiling fan like I do, constantly, you should shop carefully and look for a top grade motor and blades pitched from 12-16 degrees. Blades at flatter pitches move less air, which is not the idea here.

So go take a look at the new ceiling fans. You may find you sleep better, too.

Tyler Apology on American Idol

At the start of Wednesday's show, Fox ran an apology for its most unrestrained judge: "American Idol would like to apologize for last week's outrageous behavior by Steven Tyler."

It was followed by a second black card, which read: "Mr. Tyler has been warned and assured us it will never happen again."

Although many people had speculated earlier on what "it" was, the Fox producers were making amends for Tyler's comment last week when he joked that a contestant's last name rhymed with a profanity.

When Jake Muck introduced himself, Tyler, 62, said, "You know what Muck rhymes with, don't you?" When Muck replied, "Duck," Tyler responded, "Read my lips."

The comment reportedly drew complaints from viewers. But skeptics reportedly believe the apology was just another joke; this time from producers.

But, why would they apologize for that and not the first episode, when Tyler came under fire for hitting on teenage contestants young enough to be his granddaughter?

"American Idol" producers are smart enough to know that they have found a new star in judge Tyler. The more off-the-cuff remarks he makes, the more headlines he generates and the more -- producers hope -- viewers tune into the show.

Even before the 10th season started, Tyler was making headlines for comments he made about snorting Lunesta and partaking in a backstage three-way. Based on his comments, it was clear the Aerosmith frontman had not signed a morals clause with the family-favorite show or even been coached on what not to say.

On the season premiere, Tyler quickly upstaged fellow freshman judge Jennifer Lopez. He punctuated the auditions with his signature scream, sometimes singing and tapping along with the contestants.

Brother is Looking For New Work

Oprah Has A Half-Sister

Yes, there's a family out there that's going to be millionaires soon. And that's because she's related to Oprah.

Recently, Oprah Winfrey says she has discovered a long-lost half-sister. The Queen of All Media had made a big to-do about how she'd reveal a family secret on Monday's show. And this is it.

In 1963, when Oprah was 9, her mother, Vermita Lee, put a child up for adoption and never told Oprah. That child had a father who was not Oprah's dad. On Monday's show, 48 years later, Oprah and Patricia (last name withheld) were reunited with Lee.

DNA tests confirmed the sisterhood. In searching for her birth mother, Patricia stumbled on the astounding truth. She then began the long work of contacting Oprah privately ("family business needs to be handled by family," she said).

Patricia has a daughter, Aquarius, and a son, Andre, giving Oprah a half-niece and -nephew. Sadly and ironically, Oprah had another half-sister named Patricia; she died in 2003.

Renovation

Our house badly needs renovation. The last rainy season showed a lot of parts on the roof that needs to be fixed. And now that it's summer, it's time to have it repaired.

Ushers Walks Out of Concern After Feeling Sick

Usher was forced to delay the kick off of his European OMG Tour on Wednesday night in Berlin because of illness. In a statement released to fans, the singer apologized for the last-minute scratch, saying he felt he was suffering from a "sinus complication." Although the gig was rescheduled for Thursday night at the O2 World arena in Berlin, his German fans apparently weren't appeased by his effort.

"I am truly sorry to all my fans in Berlin who were inconvenienced by tonight's postponement of the show," the singer said in a statement about Wednesday's aborted concert. "I was ill and felt that I would not have been able to give them the show that they properly deserve. ... I am looking forward to performing tomorrow and giving Berliners a great show."

According to the statement, the singer received treatment from doctors for a sinus issue that affected his balance, but a visibly still-ailing Usher was unable to finish the Thursday make-up show, reportedly abandoning the stage after just five songs.

On Friday (January 14), a follow-up statement from his spokesperson confirmed that he was too ill to play Thursday night's Berlin date and has been forced to reschedule the next three dates on the tour as well. The Rotterdam show originally scheduled for this week has been moved to March 1 and a show in Antwerp, also slated for this week, has been bumped to March 7.

The statement also updated the singer's condition: "Usher is suffering from upper respiratory illness, which is currently preventing him from performing a proper show. After consultation with doctors, he has been advised to reschedule the upcoming dates in order to get the rest he needs to ensure a complete recovery."
