Authorities in Iceland have exhumed the body of American chess champion Bobby Fischer to determine whether he is the father of a 9-year-old girl from the Philippines.
Police district commissioner Olafur Helgi Kjartansson said Fischer's corpse was dug up from a cemetery near Selfoss in southern Iceland early today in the presence of a doctor, a priest and other officials.
Kjartansson said the exhumation "was done in a professional and dignified way and according to law. The privacy of the deceased was protected at all times."
He said Fischer was reburied after DNA samples were taken.
Fischer died in Iceland in January 2008 aged 64. He left no will, and legal wrangling continues over his estate.
Last month Iceland's supreme court ruled Fischer should be exhumed so DNA testing could determine whether he was the father of Jinky Young, whose mother Marilyn says she had a relationship with Fischer.
Jinky, who lives in the Philippines with her mother, flew to Iceland to provide her own blood sample in December.
Fischer, who was born in Chicago and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., became world famous in 1972 when he defeated Boris Spassky of the Soviet Union for the world championship in a tournament, played in Reykjavik, that brimmed with Cold War symbolism.
Fischer became an American hero, but his later life was dominated by his erratic, eccentric behavior.
He lost his world title in 1975 after refusing to defend it against Anatoly Karpov. He dropped out of competitive chess and largely out of view, spending time in Hungary and the Philippines and emergingoccasionally to make outspoken and often outrageous comments, sometimes attacking the United States.
Fischer was arrested in Japan in 2004 and threatened with extradition to the U.S. to face charges of breaking international sanctions against the former Yugoslavia by playing a chess match there in 1992.
Fischer renounced his U.S. citizenship and spent nine months in custody before chess-loving Iceland granted him citizenship.
Fischer lived in Iceland from 2005 until his death and is buried about 30 miles east of the capital, Reykjavik.

On Insurance
We had a meeting with our financial advisors last night. This was our second meeting and we got this huge folder of our "plan". We started in three areas: my insurance, getting private insurance for my partner, and budget.
Health: I have insurance through work for free. Work offers dental and vision for a small monthly amount- I already took them up on those.
Long Term disability insurance: I already had this through work - starts 90 days after you stop work - standard 60% of pay.
The advisors pointed this out and steered us to get more long term disability coverage for myself. I am the only one with a steady income at this point and we would be screwed without it. They said that pretty much everyone needs to supplement the long term disability plan included with work insurance.
Additional cost- around 50-55 bucks a month. This gets an extra 1,000 a month in case I need LTD. This is also free from taxes.
Next, private health insurance for my partner. She is currently attending culinary school and will have no insurance at the end of August. She can't get any from school.
Our advisors showed us a well established company. We can get insurance for her for $100 a month. She will most likely get 25 dollar co-pays. We are waiting to get back all the info from the company. This was good news.

Fans Love The Fast Pace Eclipse Movie
I'm not sure if you've heard, but "Eclipse" is out now. Fans were already lining up for midnight screenings on Tuesday night to be some of the first to catch the third film in the "Twilight Saga."
The consensus among my friends whom I spoke to is that David Slade's take on the vampire tale rocked.
"Best movie! It was actually the whole tent scene. Love the tent scene; it was a battle between Edward and Jacob. It was amazing! I loved it," said a friend. "I would actually have to say this is one of the top films that has come out so far. 'Twilight' was good. 'New Moon' was good, but I think this was better. Jacob — this time around he was such an amazing actor."

Changing of Lights
I don't know what got into my aunt but she's been chaning her lighting decors in her house and replaing it with the Savoy house design.
I guess that's what happens when you've been living in a house that's been the same for almost 20 years. It's really a big renovation I think because she likes her home to be bright and well lit and there's so many lighting fixtures in her residence.
Personally, I like hanging out in her home because it's always cozy and peaceful. That's why I can't wait for her to finish her home project so I can come back and spend my afternoons there again. I'm thinking it will all be finished within the week.
