I was able to drink my very first mint julep last year but it was not during the Kentucky Derby. A friend of mine made it during one of those weekends at home and we didn't have anything to do.
He told me that he was going to teach me how to make a Mint Julep. I didn't know what it was at first but when he took some mint leaves in the garden and a bottle of rum. I knew what he was up to.
And now, since the Kentucky Derby 2009 is here, I remember that great evening of good conversation with my friend. He is now in Singapore and I'm sure he will be drinking a Mint Julep when the 2009 Kentucky Derby Results come out.
