The Colors of Gold

I was looking for possible gifts for my Dad on Father's Day and I thought of looking for jewelries that he would like. There's a lot of options available for me but I think I have settled for buying him a gold chain.

I don't really like buying the classic yellow gold because it's so ordinary and common already. Although white gold is a better option but I fear that it would be confused with silver. A two tone gold would be my best option I think.

But then, I'm surprised that there's a new color for gold and it's PINK! Of course I won't buy that for my father but it's actually a good alternative for the jewelries of my mother.

Here's a sample picture and a preview of the pink gold! Truly interesting.

Complete Father's Day History

Do you want to know the history of Father's Day? Then here's the story based from what various sources in the internet is telling. This is the most complete and detailed history of Father's Day, the day when we honor our Dad, Papa, Tatay or Ama.

In the United States, the driving force behind the establishment of the celebration of Father's Day was Mrs. Sonora Smart Dodd. Her father, the Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart, as a single parent raised his six children in Spokane, Washington. She was inspired by Anna Jarvis's efforts to establish Mother's Day. Although she initially suggested June 5, the anniversary of her father's death, she did not provide the organizers with enough time to make arrangements, and the celebration was deferred to the third Sunday in June. The first Father's Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in Spokane, Washington.

It should be noted that Fairmont, West Virginia, not far from Anna Jarvis's home town of Grafton, claims to have held the first official remembrance two years earlier at Williams Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church on July 5, 1908. Unofficial support from such figures as William Jennings Bryan was immediate and widespread. Woodrow Wilson was personally so feted by his family in 1916, and Calvin Coolidge recommended it as a national holiday in 1924. The all-male U.S. Congress, however, was mindful that passing a measure so favorable to males could be seen as a conflict of interest. In 1966, Lyndon Johnson made Father's Day a holiday to be celebrated on the third Sunday of June. The holiday was not officially recognized until the presidency of Richard Nixon in 1972.

Scholars believe that the origin of Father's Day is not a latest phenomenon, as many believe it to be. Rather they claim that the tradition of Father's Day can be traced in the ruins of Babylon. They have recorded that a young boy called Elmesu carved a Father's Day message on a card made out of clay nearly 4,000 years ago. Elmesu wished his Babylonian father good health and a long life. Though there is no record of what happened to Elmesu and his father but the tradition of celebrating Father's Day remained in several countries all over the world. History of Father's Day Festival as seen today is not even a hundred years old. Thanks to the hard work and struggle of Ms Sonora Louise Smart Dodd of Washington that just as we have set aside Mother's Day to honor mothers we have a day to acknowledge the important role played by the father. However, some scholars opine that Father's Day history is much older than we actually believe it to be. They say that the custom of honoring dad's on a special day is over 4,000 years old. There are a few more claims about the Father's Day origin about which we will learn in this page. Modern version of Father's Day celebration originated in United States of America and thereafter the tradition spread in countries around the world. The world owes thanks to Ms Sonora Louise Smart Dodd a loving daughter from Spokane, Washington as it is because of her struggle that Father's Day saw the light of the day.

The idea of Father's Day celebration originated in Sonora's mind when she per chance listened to Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Fairly mature at the age 27, Sonora pondered if there is a day to honor mother then why not for father? Sonora felt strongly for fathers because of the affection she received from her own father Mr William Jackson Smart, a Civil War veteran. Sonora's mother died while childbirth when she was just 16. Mr Smart raised the newborn and five other children with love and care. Inspired by Ms Anna Jarvis's struggle to promote Mother's Day, Ms Dodd began a rigorous campaign to celebrate Father's Day in US. The Spokane Ministerial Association and the local Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) supported Sonora's cause. As a result Spokane celebrated its first Father's Day on June 19, 1910. Though there was initial hesitation the idea gained gradual popularity all over US and Fathers Day came to be celebrated in cities across the country. Looking at the heightened popularity of Father's Day in US, President Woodrow Wilson approved of this idea in 1916. President Calvin Coolidge too supported the idea of a national Father's Day in 1924 to, "establish more intimate relations between fathers and their children and to impress upon fathers the full measure of their obligations". After a protracted struggle of over four decades, President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the third Sunday of June as Father's Day in 1966. Then in 1972, President Richard Nixon established a permanent national observance of Father's Day to be held on the third Sunday of June. Sonora Smart Dodd was honored for her contribution at the World's Fair in Spokane in 1974. Mrs. Dodd died in 1978, at age 96.

While many people believe that Father's Day is a holiday invented by the fine folks at Hallmark, it's not so. The celebration of Dad's special day can most likely be credited to Mrs. John B. Dodd, of Washington State, who first suggested the idea of the holiday in 1909. Mrs. Dodd's father, civil war veteran William Smart, was widowed when his wife died during childbirth with their sixth child. Despite the obvious hardships, Mr. Smart proceeded to raise the newborn along with his five other children, by himself. It wasn't until Sonora Dodd became an adult that she realized the strength and selflessness her father had shown in raising his children as a single parent. The original date chosen for the holiday was June 5, Mr. Smart's birthday, however the celebration was postponed until June 19, the third Sunday in June, because there was not enough time to prepare. At about the same time in various towns and cities across America other people were beginning to celebrate a Father's Day. Some accounts credit Mrs. Charles Clayton of West Virginia, as the founder of Father's Day, although most histories give credit to Mrs. Dodd. In early times, wearing flowers was a traditional way of celebrating Father's Day. Mrs. Dodd favored the red rose to honor a father still living, while a white flower honored a deceased dad. J.H. Berringer, who also held Father's Day celebrations in Washington State as early as 1912, chose a white lilac as the Father's Day Flower. In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a national Father's Day, but it never became official until 1966 when President Lyndon Johnson signed the presidential proclamation that set aside the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day.

Insurance Thoughts

My aunt called yesterday to ask me if I can get a term life insurance quote for her. I immediately logged into the internet and looked for insurance companies that I can recommend to her. Honestly, it was quite difficult to search online. There are so many sites and it's all confusing.

Good thing I stumbled upon the website of Wholesale Insurance. It's so easy to get term life insurance quotes from them online. Their insurance quote engine instantly gives quotes and rates from all of the best term life insurance companies. I can also also compare term life insurance policies from these companies all from one screen.

With life so hard and unpredictable nowadays, it's become essential to find affordable, low cost, and cheap term life insurance. It's smart living.

Who Is Ronald Bongo?

Who is Ronald Bongo? If you're not familiar with computer and technology news, then here's a short bio about this great guy.

Ron Bongo is one of the leading executives for the open source software industry. What is open source? Well, open source is a development methodology, which offers practical accessibility to a product's source code. In layman's terms, if you can bake very delicious chocolate chip brownies and you declare that the recipe is open source, then that means that we can ask for a copy of your recipe and make our own modifications.

Anyway, back to Mr. Ronald Bongo, he is currently the CEO of Corra Technology, known in the industry as CorraTech. He brings in 20 years of diverse experience, to his position at CorraTech. During these two decades, he honed his expertise in technology, management consulting and finance. His management skills drives the company's corporate strategy and he directs its management team and builds key business and strategic relationships.

This guys is like my Dad. He's very talented and works very hard. I wish to be like him in the future.

My Dad is An Emo Guitar Player

I know my Dad has many talents but I just discovered that he is a great Emo guitar player. So what exactly is an Emo guitar player?

Well, I use that term to refer to a person who plays the guitar with so much emotion and passion that you can't help but be swayed by the music.

I wish I have a great video camera so I could record him while he plays. But for now, I'd just have to settle with watching him play every morning before he prepares for work.

How did I discover this talent of his just now?

Because my brother who's trying to be an Emo rock star just bought an acoustic guitar and trying to learn how to play it. Lo and behold, my Dad suddenly picks up the guitar and plays all his favorite serenades to my Mom.

We were all smiling up to our ears when we saw what he was doing.

So to my Dad, the Emo guitar player! Rock on!

Have you heard of EcoQuest International?

I recently stumbled upon this journal in Blackwell Synergy about EcoQuest Intl. It's a very interesting article about active, innovative, nature-based solutions for improving indoor spaces. This is the first time that I heard about such great products.

Indeed, we should never forget to take care of our health. Oftentimes, eating a balanced diet and exercise is not enough. We should also be aware of our surroundings. This means ensuring that our basic necessities such as air and water are clean and healthy.

With the risk of pollution and contamination in our air and water, we should do our own vigilance to protect ourselves and our family from sickness and disease. Investing on purification systems and disinfecting devices are now essential to keep our environment safe and hygienic.

As they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I believe in this and can attest that with the rising prices of medicines and hospital fees nowadays, it's really smarter to invest in a healthy lifestyle. Eat wise, exercise regularly, take vitamins and keep your surroundings clean. This is the best way to ensure long term health and quality living.

Now It's Real - David Cook Wins American Idol 7

Now we have the real winner! 25-year-old rocker David Cook won American Idol 2008 title, beating his tough competitor 17-year-old David Archuleta.

On 20th May, it looked like David Archuleta would walk away with the coveted title. He won the hearts of the judges of the show Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell with his shooting voice. Cowell even went to the extend of saying that it was a knockout. However, American audience seems to admire the maturity in Cook and his forceful voice. He won the American Idol by getting 56% of the total 97 million votes.

The American Idol finale started with a surprise. The top final 12 contestants sang George Michael's songs "Faith" and "Father Figure". Then George Michael himself took the stage and sang the song "Praying For Time". Judge Paula Abdul was in tears on hearing the song.

What Is A Living Trust?

The recent news about the RCBC bank robbery and murders in Cabuyao, Laguna has brought about fear among my fellow countrymen. A lot of my friends are now afraid of going into banks alone. This phobia is more heightened by the gruesome reports of the media about the event.

Personally, I'm likewise affected but in a different way. Such unforgivable acts of violence makes me realize how fragile and unpredictable our life is. No matter how much we take good care of ourselves, we cannot fully control the things that will happen in our days.

When we die, what happens to our assets and properties? Do we leave it to our grieving family and relatives to take care of it, which usually results to unnecessary feuds and arguments? I believe that we shouldn't and one way to prevent this from happening is to make a living trust.

In a nutshell, a trust is an arrangement under which a person, called the trustee, will hold legal title over the property of another person, called the beneficiary. A "living trust" or "inter vivos" trust is simply a trust you create while you're alive, rather than one that is created at your death under the terms of your will. You can be the trustee of your own living trust, keeping full control over all property held in trust.

My aunt who is abroad has one. She approached a San Diego living trust attorney to help her create one. I asked her why she did so and she says that a living trust does not have to go through probate, which makes it advantageous. Moreover, she says that with proper training, a living trust can be a valuable estate and tax planning device.

Now I know why my aunt is rich. She is really financially smart.

I Think I Need A Vacation

I've been very busy lately with work and blogging and all the other stuff which I need to do for my family and friends. And just a moment ago, I said to myself, I think I need a vacation. It would be really nice to forget about everything that I have in my todo list and simply go around the whole day doing all the things I love.

It would be nice to go out of town, or out of the country, such as going to the beach with Oregon Coast Vacation Rentals. Yes, I love the sound of the sea and the sun on my porch. That will really be a perfect afternoon for me.

It may not be wise for me to immediately buy a beach front property and it would be a waste if I don't use it often and live there. That's why renting a vacation home or condominium is ideal for people like me who just wants to relax and have a vacation once in awhile.

If you're looking beach vacation houses and condominiums in Oregon, then visit their new website and feel free to browse around. I'm sure you'll love their great offerings. Their agents provide great customer service so you can plan your vacation exactly the way you want it. To learn more, here's a copy of their press release below:

What is Progesterone?

A friend of mine is taking up nursing and is reviewing for an exam. She asked me to help her remember some of the topics she's studying. It's quite educational on my part because I get to learn some medical terms as well.

One of the more interesting things I learned is progesterone. So what is it?

Progesterone is a progestogen. Progestogens are a group of hormones which work in a similar way to progesterone - but only progesterone itself is natural. All the others in this group are synthetic. If progesterone is taken in the form of medication by mouth, the liver quickly breaks it down.

What Are Progestogens Used For?

If a woman has a condition which leads to her ovaries failing to work, natural progesterone won't be made in sufficient quantities. Progestogens can be given to take their place. They can also help to treat abnormal bleeding from the uterus, PMS and in conjunction with HRT. They are probably best known for their use in birth control pills.

That's it. I guess you really learn something new everyday!

Web Hosting Thoughts

As you can see, even though I have my own domain name, this site is still being hosted in Blogger. Lately, some of my friends are encouraging me to move to a paid web hosting company because it has search engine optimization benefits and web design advantages among others. I must say, since I'm planning to maintain this blog for the long term, I have to seriously consider this.

My problem now is that I'm not really a technical person when it comes to web design and programming. So before I consider moving my site, I must first study and read about web hosting articles and tutorials.

Fortunately, I found this website which was able to answer most of my questions. Web Host Rating does not only give useful tutorials but also provides comparative information about the best web hosting providers which someone who's planning to move their websites can choose from.

I specially liked their articles on cPanel Tutorials because I always hear this from my friends who have their own web hosting and I can't seem to really understand it until now. This website is quite new and but it's already very helpful to me. I'm sure that in the next few weeks, it will be a very good and reliable resource of web hosting information so I think I'll be coming to this site more often.

For those who don't know yet, this is a conversation between a call center agent and a customer. The exchange of words are really funny specially if you understand Tagalog and Bisaya, two dialects of the Philippines.

I kell you! I kell you!

I'm a regular online shopper. I buy almost everything on the internet. From books, softwares, CD's, computer accessories, everything. One of my favorite places to visit is Buy.com because it's easy to shop there.

The interface is simple and easy to navigate. And best of all, they offer special deals and discounts on some of the best items. Buy.com offers a wide array of brands and products that caters to almost anyone's needs.

Hop on over to their site and see for yourself.

Philippines Lotto 6/42 Results For May 17

The winning numbers for the Philippine Lotto 6 42 are:
3 - 8 - 11 - 19 - 32 - 35

The jackpot prize was 12,440,154.60

One lucky winner for this draw.

Again, as there were no winners for the last two consecutive draws, there was a high chance that someone will win this one and it did. This is the reason why I love playing the Philippine Lotto 6/42 as against the other Philippine lotto games such as the MegaLotto and SuperLotto. This game produces more millionaires than the other two. Although the jackpot prize are higher in the other two, I believe that you only need around 3 million pesos to make a significant change in your life. Do you agree? So keep playing smart.
