Saving and fighting for the environment is one of the foremost advocacies in the world today. Who is Leona Lewis in real life? A lot of my friends even call her Leona Luis, which is quite a big mistake. But how much do you really know about her? What's her life story?

Leona Lewis was born in Islington, a London district. Her parents are Aural Josiah, a Guyanese Afro-Caribbean youth worker, and Maria Lewis, a social worker of Anglo-Welsh descent. She attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School at the age of five, and later the Italia Conti Academy and the BRIT School.

Lewis wrote her first song at the very young age of twelve, and won several talent competitions. After leaving school, Lewis took on waitressing and several receptionist jobs to sustain her expenses while she tries to get into a recording studio.

She recorded a several songs including a demo album of her own compositions entitled Twilight, which was never released. At fifteen years, she recorded a version of Minnie Riperton's "Lovin' You" with music producer Marley J. Wills, after which Lewis and Wills were invited to the U.S. by Sony. Wills commented that "Leona could hit the notes and I think she did it better than the original."

Unfortunately, when her music career seemed to be going nowhere, she decided to finally give up, until her boyfriend persuaded her to enter The X Factor.

In 2006, Lewis auditioned for the third series of The X Factor, singing "Over the Rainbow". She made it until the final stages and was announced the winner on 16 December 2006, winning a £1 million recording contract. She went under the mentoring of Simon Cowell.

After that, her career started it's very exciting climb.

I saw this just a few minutes ago. Apparently, Pinoy international singing sensation Charice Pempengco will be guesting in The Oprah Winfrey Show this coming May. She will be featured along with other very talented child wonders.

This video clip from YouTube shows the teaser for the upcoming episode. You can see some other extraordinary kids like who are playing the piano, dancing ballet, beating drums and others including Philippine's Pride, Charice Pempengco hitting a sustained high note for the audience of Oprah.

I Feel Dehydrated

I feel thirsty a lot lately and I don't know why. Maybe it's the heat of summer here in the Philippines. Maybe it's something more. Hmmm.

Of course I've been drinking a lot of water lately but it seems that it's not enough. Have you ever felt that way before? Strange, really strange for me. Why? Because I like drinking water and I usually consume 6-8 glasses a day.

I called my friend who's also a doctor a while ago and he said that I should try to drink some of the sports drinks available and see how it affects me. He said that I could also be losing a lot of minerals from my sweat because the heat is really intense lately.

That's really good advise don't you think? So I'm heading down the nearest convenience store and I'll be buying myself some thirst quenchers. I hope this works. Wish me luck. :D

I Want Some Style For My Website

I'm not particularly proud of the design of my blog. It's just one of the available themes in Blogger, which I simply customized to have 3 columns. The reason why I chose to use this is not really because it's convenient but actually due to the fact that I don't have a background in web design.

I tried to search and read on the internet about this but I couldn't really understand all the technical stuff and jargon. Nevertheless, I've already learned a lot specially about the concept of layout, design and usability. I will now apply these principles in my blog in the days and weeks to come.

Moreover, I'm currently reading this design blog by Robert and Andei and I'm finding their articles really helpful for someone like me. The website integrates the technical aspects of design and the abstract concept of art into a comprehensible piece of writing.

One particular post that I've enjoyed is "I'm going to build my very own Web page" because I learned something about HTML through that post. I think that I will come back often to this site. Miniature Pinscher

I was hanging out by the porch of our house yesterday when I noticed a dog digging a hole on our lawn. I tried to make it go away but the dog wouldn't budge. He would just run away from me but then go back to our lawn and hang out with me.

Suddenly, I noticed that the dog looked tired and dirty. I assumed that he was lost and is now digging for food in our yard. I tried to observe it until he noticed my gaze and he cautiously approached the bench where I was sitting.

"You're lost, aren't you?"

The dog made an almost inaudible moan. At that point, I decided to bring it inside the house. The dog is a female miniature pinscher with strong pointed ears and a nice colored tan. I decided to clean her up and give her some food which she really gobbled up.

She doesn't have any tags so I don't know how to look for her master. Maybe I'd put up signs in our neighborhood tomorrow about her. For the meantime, she's staying with me. If nobody claims her maybe after a month, I guess I would have to keep her and give her a new name.

Batangas Beach Resorts, Nintendo DS and PSP

On my recent visit in a Batangas Beach Resort, I saw a lot of people playing with Nintendo DS and Playstation Portable - PSP consoles. It seems that the technology of the classic Game and Watch has really come a long way.

I don't own these gadgets, I'm not a techie anyway. But I think that it seems inappropriate to bring these devices at the beach. Why waste your time playing when you can instead enjoy the sun and the sea at the beach. There are a lot of activities that you can only do there so why not take advantage of the opportunity to snorkle, sunbathe or even build a sand castle?

The youth these days are so much distracted by technology that they often ignore and forget that nature is a playground in itself. I hope that parents will realize this and hopefully teach their kids the value of appreciating nature.
