It's been announced that the games of Nintendo DSi will be region locked. This is totally different from the previous consoles like the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite. No wonder people are looking for free Nintendo DSi games or region unlocked versions of games for Nintendo DSi.
The reason why this was done is because Nintendo intends to provide services specifically tailored for each region. This means if a gamer buys a DSi in Europe, then he’ll only be able to play software bought within Europe and not those bought in other regions such as North America and Japan.
The Nintendo DSi is backwardly compatible with software designed for the Nintendo DS, and more importantly, Nintendo DSi region-lock will not be applicable to DS titles. Now that's a relief.
