Home of Manny Pacquiao, General Santos is home to the September Philippine fiesta, Tuna Festival. This 2008, I shall give you a glimpse of the Tuna Festival in Gensan as I will post pictures here of the fiesta soon. GenSan's Tuna Festival
Tuna is the primary fishing product of General Santos. The industry contributes to as much as 60% of the city's economy. That's why it celebrates the annual Tuna festival to thank the generous Mother Nature and honor the fishermen of the city.
What happens during the Tuna Festival?
Parade, ceremonies, street dancing and a Tuna float competition are usual activities. So bring your camera down south and capture the Best Dressed Tuna. Also prepare your stomach for some tuna sashimi - GenSan style.
How to go to General Santos?
Go there by air. The General Santos Airport accepts daily flights to Sarangani from Manila via Philippine Airlines and Air Philippines (via Cebu). Also Tambler Airport is around 20 minutes away from the city center.
Go to Gensan by boat. WG&A Superferry, Sulpicio Lines, and Negros Navigation provides transportation to General Santos.
Go to the Tuna Festival by bus. You can take a trip beyond GenSan City to Maitum and Kiamba. Buses leave in 15-minute intervals. After about 2 and 1/2 hours on some world-class roads built under the Philippine Assistance Program (PAP). Expect beautiful scenery along the way.
